Magenta Consulting is conducting an exploratory study “Hidden Champions in Rising Economies”. The study will be coordinated by IEDC-Bled School of Management, CEEMAN, the International Association for Management Development in Dynamic Societies, and Alliance of Management Development Associations in Rising Economies. The finality of the study is a book published by one of the international publishers about “Hidden Champions and their Management and Leadership Development Needs”. The study was previously conducted in 2013 and 2018.

The objective of this global exploratory study, conducted across four continents is to identify and describe the present Hidden Champions in Africa, Asia, Central, and Eastern Europe, and South America. The study will promote countries from these continents in terms of their innovative companies, which are the leaders in their respective niche sectors, and the international market. The study will strive to recognize the common characteristics of Hidden Champions, describing the best practices and spotting the main success factors. Secondly, the study will seek to assess the development needs of Hidden Champions in order to determine how their further expansion can be supported in terms of management, financing or the regulatory environment.

Hidden Champions, based on Simon’s (1996) definition, are:

1) Companies that occupy the number one or two position in the world market and the number one position in the European market as measured by market share or, if the latter is unknown, a Hidden Champion company must be a leader relative to its strongest competitor.

2) A Hidden Champion company must be small or medium-sized and normally, its sales revenue would not exceed 1 billion US dollars.

Your company’s involvement in the exploratory study would require the commitment of one interview with a C-level executive. The interview will be conducted by experienced researchers and will last up to, but not exceeding 60 minutes. The questions will be focused on the company's characteristics, main drivers for success, and your perspectives on the challenges that the company is facing, the current and future management and leadership development needs, also in terms of financial support and regulatory environment.
